The objective of this assignment is to illustrate part of a children's book story, just like it would appear in a picture book as a full-page illustration or a book cover illustration. The book or story is your choice. You can pick a short story, something from Aesop's Fables or similar short stories, or choose a familiar part from a longer story. You could also use an original story written by you or someone you know.
-Reflection-
For this project I decided to remake the cover of the "Japanese Children's Favorite Stories" book. I loved this book growing up but I thought that the cover could look a little more eye catching and sophisticated. I know that when you think of children's book you don't think of sophistication but I wanted to make it seem more clean and dynamic then the original. To make my cover more eye catching I made sure to use vibrant colors and make it simple enough that even a child would understand what is happening. When doing this assignment I mainly used the paint brush tool and a lot of blur effect to get the desired blend and texture. The petals that are flowing off of the tree is actually the grass symbol from the symbols panel and I colored it green. It came together with that addition in my opinion. Originally I wanted to do a different book but then I remembered that we had to go with a children's story and why not choose something similar in concept the I don't have to change much. Some of the difficulties that I ran into were a lot of the finer details. I wish I could have made more details or at least refined some of the larger elements of the piece.
All in all I believe that I did okay but not the greatest I could have done. There was a panic period of no internet because of the snow so that was delaying a lot of my assignments so this one felt rushed in some ways. I am glad I got to where I was in the project.
