Overview
You need something to hold your stationary right? You need something that will knock someone's socks off when they receive it in a meeting. We were tasked with creating kit covers/folder to hold a business letter, business card, and our brochure. The main things we had to worry about was a pocket or a flap that will hold our stationary. We also needed a handy little business card holder. You would have added a pocket or maybe a slit in the main pocket like I did.
Research and Brainstorming
These were my inspiration going into this portion of the project. I also referenced some of the same material from my Stationary research because some of those stationary packages had kit covers as well. I really wanted to do something more unique with the pocket and you will see that I tried but in the end I didn't do anything really special.
Sketches and Doodles
I really wanted to do a star pocket. I wanted to keep the star theme but it was too unreliable to get done.
Mini Dummies
I wanted to add the star design so bad but nothing was practical and it wouldn't have held  the stationary as well as I wanted. I went with the triangle pockets and I really like how it came out in the end.
Computer progression
As you can see I was still trying to make the impractical star pocket work. The main things that I took to the next step from this was a large logo on the front and the information being in the bottom left corner on the back of the folder.
Second computer progression
This was the folder I turned in at the pre-crit day and I really liked it. I took away the left pocket because it was unnecessary the business card would just fall out of it so I added a slit into the larger right pocket so that my business card would fit there.
Final Assembled
This is my final assembled kit cover and I am supper happy with it. I figured out how to make a duotone and it came out great. I love the subtle hint of blue in the ring and the purple prints so nice. Some of the changes that I made from the progression to this final is the logo being larger and changing the pocket color. Those changes really brought this all together.
Final
This was a great piece. This is probably my favorite item in the set so far. I really like having to figure out how to make the pockets and how the duotone works. I was really happy with this end product.
